New Water for 2008 Season
The Wye and Usk Foundation will publish their Passport Scheme brochure for 2008 early in the year. There will be some new beats, but not on the scale of 2007. The prospects look terrific, once the current high water retreats. Winter has arrived along with the recent flood and bitterly cold winds. Time to tie a few flies and check the river height (not too many times a day) on the WUF webcams. The high water will have changed the river in places. The new season will bring new challenges and new pleasures.
There is everything from boisterous rivers, rushing over rock ledges and around boulders to small sedate streams. For what they lack in size these brooks make up in other ways. They have their own magic, often hidden by a veil of bank-side trees. The fly life can be terrific, especially at mayfly time. So whatever you want to try, wherever your mood takes you, there should be a beat to please.
